Work Wanderers Retreat: Bali
What type of remote work do you do?
I am a full-time software engineer and spend most of my time working for a top tier cryptocurrency exchange and in the rest of my spare time working on exciting personal projects.
Why did you decide to become a digital nomad?
I’ve got a bit of routine-aphobia and started to feel the need to step outside of my standard ritual of waking up at 8:30 and catching the (sweaty) London tube to work and back. I felt like I should be taking advantage of my industry which supports remote working so well and becoming remote seemed like an experience which I had to partake in whilst I was young and without any big commitments.
Where have you traveled?
I left the UK 8 months ago and since I have seen Kangaroos in Australia, hustle and bustle in China, landscapes in Bali, sea-life in Thailand, wonders of the world in Jordan and good friends in Palestine.
What challenges do you face as a Digital Nomad?
I’m a bit of a workaholic and I find it hard to find other nomads who also prioritise their work lives. A lot of the friends that I have typically make whilst travelling tend to either be in the middle of a gap year or just travelling on savings.
Why did you join a work Wanderers retreat?
I joined the retreat because I knew that I would be instantly paired up with a group of like-minded individuals and that the itinerary would be handcrafted for working individuals such as myself.
How has your Work Wanderers experience been?
It’s been absolutely brilliant! All of the nomads that I shared the retreat with were amazing and the itinerary that Work Wanderers put together for us had a great balance of socialising and learning.
What advice would you give someone looking to become a digital nomad?
I would tell people to scout opportunities such as Work Wanderers as they handle everything for you and pair you up with great people. Try to keep a good routine and make sure you spend your working hours in a co-working space.
